| Class # : 348 Sustainability and the Future | ||
Meeting Dates : 4/2/2008 Time : 10:00 AM-11:55 AM No of Seminars : 1 Facilitator : Tom Lombardo, Ph.D. | Join |
|
| Born out of ecological thinking and concerns over the environment, the sustainability movement emphasizes developing ways of life that will ensure for a continual high quality of life for all of humanity into the future. Sustainability highlights foresight rather than short-sightedness. The basic fear driving the sustainability movement is that the modern way of life -- of economic progress and accelerative consumption -- is leading to an exhaustion of our natural resources and eventual environmental catastrophe. But a basic fact of nature is that life grows or dies; just as our mad rush for more may lead to disaster, so will regression or stasis. Hence, the question for us all is how to realize sustainable growth. Our presenter, Tom Lombardo, comes to us from the faculty of Rio Salado College in Tempe. This is the fourth in a series of classes on the future that are being given for RISE by Dr. Lombardo throughout this school year. |
